Keeping The Tradition Alive
Continuing The Journey

Welcome Family:

As long as I could remember I was always creating something, whether, knitting, sewing, crocheting, or just basket weaving. Many of the skills I have learned were passed down to me through my mother, and elders in my family. My mother loved to cook and give special dinner parties. While my father enjoyed building things. He was a carpenter by trade and a longshoreman by career.
As a little girl I would sit and watch them make baskets out of palm and sweet grass from their native Caribbean and Latin Island. They would weave bedspreads, dollies, table clothes, and clothing on Saturday and Sunday’s after church. I remember them sitting around our big dining room table and telling old stories, sing gospel songs while they sewing dresses, weaving baskets or making fancy drapes for the holidays.
I remember my 82-year-old grandmother telling me that what she was teaching me was an important craft that was passed down to her from her mother and she is now passing it down to me. However, she and my mother made
me promise that I would pass these gifts on to my children and grandchildren, and I have.
When I am sewing, or creating it gives me a sense of calmness and freedom of my artistic expression. I can listen to spiritual music or jazz and feel like I am miles away from the stress of my everyday concerns. Crafting allows me to connect with my spiritual ancestors, as I thank them for creating a passion in me, and allowing me to share these creative gifts with you.
In our journey to creativity, I will share with you the stories, culture, and the passion of sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting and basket weaving as it was shared with me.
Join me on this creative and passionate journey, as we explore sights, smells, and colors that can be incorporate into your masterpiece.
